Oatmeal Canister Upcycle and 10 Best Round-Up. No Sew Headband and Bow Holder

First Post!
Hello, my name is Katie, I am a Headband Hoarder. I have been trying to reuse some old plastic and glass bottles and containers from around the house to store food and other items in, so when I saw some ideas for reusing a large oatmeal container, I knew what I had I do!

Ta-da! So simple, and no sew! A headband and hair tie holder!

Materials needed:

An empty oatmeal canister and lid
Small piece of fabric
Hot glue gun
Glue sticks
Piece of ribbon (optional)

Instructions:

1. Cut fabric to size of oatmeal canister leaving 1/4-1/2 inch on all four sides for a hem.

2. Glue fabric onto canister. Starting on one end, glue a hem down. After one end is attached, glue fabric onto canister a few inches at a time, but don't glue down the top and bottom few inches of the canister yet, just glue the fabric to the center of the canister. When the fabric is wrapped all the way around and glued down, glue another hem on the end of the fabric so it will nicely match up the starting point. If there is too much fabric, cut it down a bit before gluing hem and flying to canister.

3. If adding a ribbon, glue in now underneath the fabric onto the top and bottom of the canister, making sure to leave enough give that the rest of the fabric will be able to be glued into place once the ribbon is set.

4. Once fabric is glued all the way around the canister and ribbon is in place, fold in top and bottom fabric towards the canister and glue down along both top and bottom edge of canister, creating a hem with no ends of fabric showing as you glue. Make sure the fabric is glued far enough down that the canister will be able to sit stable on a flat surface without fabric getting in the way. On top, make sure the fabric is tucked down enough before gluing that the lid to the canister will be able to be replaced for storage later.

Here are the 10 Best ideas floating around that I thought I'd put into one place, in case anyone wants to reuse an oatmeal canister.  Save these year-round because they are amazing for pretty much every holiday! Don't forget to use your formula, Pringles, Coffee, and other canisters as well!

Welcome

Hello! We are Bridget and Katie, sisters-in-law who spend our days crafting, cooking, taking care of our families, and saving money. Our husbands are brothers. Any time they are together, most people have trouble telling them apart--many even think they are twins. We love all things domestic, and are constantly talking about how we can share our ideas with others while developing our talents, and helping those around us. This blog is our little place to share what interests us, and all the projects we are currently working on. We hope you follow along with us!

KATIE -

Hi! My name is Katie, and I am a Southern California native turned Southern Belle. My husband Nick and I live in Charlotte with our daughter Amelia, the center of our lives. Nick and I met in Provo, Utah where we were both attending school. I graduated from Brigham Young University in Public Health, and worked at the Utah County Health Department before moving to Charlotte to start a dental lab with Nick.

I grew up in a 1960's home my parents own that needed (needs) a lot of love. My growing years included household projects, everything from de-wallpapering, painting, patching, interior design, as well as many exterior projects. My mom's love for having beauty fill her home really instilled in me that same desire. I believe the peace and serenity that can be felt in a well-kept home can't come from any where else. And I believe its all possible with only a little bit of money!

My goal for this blog is to share my projects and ideas and instill the desire to "go and do" when it comes to household rituals and projects that can become blasé, and turn them into something fun and exciting.

BRIDGET-

Hi there, my name is Bridget. I am blessed to be a stay-at-home mother to my two sweet little children while my husband works during the day. My energetic little friends and I have lots of fun during the daylight hours, and always find opportunities for creative problem solving.

Ever since my childhood, I have loved food. I love trying new foods, new restaurants, and enjoy creating my own delicacies in my kitchen at home. To me, the best part of creating a delicious new dish is seeing the smiles on my family members' faces as they devour every last bite. I believe the experience in eating is as important as the food itself, and I do my best to make each dish look beautiful as well as taste amazing.

My other passion in life is crafting. When I was a young girl, I learned how to sew and crochet, and my love for this hobby has continued to grow over the years. I was never formally trained in either activity, so there is still much for me to learn. Every time I complete a project, I feel I learn something new. I have so much fun making clothes, blankets, and toys for my children, and seeing their excitement with my personalized handmade creations is priceless.

My goal for this blog is to share my love of cooking and crafting, and to inspire others to enrich their lives through creativity.
