Hello, my name is Katie, I am a Headband Hoarder. I have been trying to reuse some old plastic and glass bottles and containers from around the house to store food and other items in, so when I saw some ideas for reusing a large oatmeal container, I knew what I had I do!
Ta-da! So simple, and no sew! A headband and hair tie holder!
Materials needed:
An empty oatmeal canister and lid
Small piece of fabric
Hot glue gun
Glue sticks
Piece of ribbon (optional)
Instructions:
1. Cut fabric to size of oatmeal canister leaving 1/4-1/2 inch on all four sides for a hem.
2. Glue fabric onto canister. Starting on one end, glue a hem down. After one end is attached, glue fabric onto canister a few inches at a time, but don't glue down the top and bottom few inches of the canister yet, just glue the fabric to the center of the canister. When the fabric is wrapped all the way around and glued down, glue another hem on the end of the fabric so it will nicely match up the starting point. If there is too much fabric, cut it down a bit before gluing hem and flying to canister.
3. If adding a ribbon, glue in now underneath the fabric onto the top and bottom of the canister, making sure to leave enough give that the rest of the fabric will be able to be glued into place once the ribbon is set.
4. Once fabric is glued all the way around the canister and ribbon is in place, fold in top and bottom fabric towards the canister and glue down along both top and bottom edge of canister, creating a hem with no ends of fabric showing as you glue. Make sure the fabric is glued far enough down that the canister will be able to sit stable on a flat surface without fabric getting in the way. On top, make sure the fabric is tucked down enough before gluing that the lid to the canister will be able to be replaced for storage later.
